Full condition surveys, as the name suggests, cover every component of the vessel. They are therefore the preferred choice for pre-purchase situations and are often referred to as pre-purchase surveys.

 

The survey includes a visual inspection of all aspects of the vessel, from the underwater body and appendages to the topsides, deck and superstructure, and — in the case of sailing yachts — the rig. It also comprises a full inspection of the vessel’s interior, including bilges and technical spaces, as well as testing of all installed machinery.

 

Each survey is followed by a detailed written report describing every inspected system and component, concluding with a clear list of findings and recommendations.

 

Where deeper insight is required, the survey can be enhanced through the use of non-destructive testing techniques such as infrared thermography or ultrasound, laboratory analysis of lubricating oils, fuel or coolants, and — where applicable — an aloft rig inspection.
